Astrop Advisory Corporation was co-founded in 1982 by William B. Astrop (1929 - 2013). Bill previously co-founded Atlanta Capital Management, serving as its Chairman until forming Astrop Advisory.

Bill was a graduate of the University of Richmond and received his MBA in finance from the Harvard Business School, where he was a recipient of the J. Spencer Love Fellowship for Academic Achievement. He was a Chartered Financial Analyst and member of the Association for Investment Management and Research and the Atlanta Financial Analysts Association.

Bill was an early investor in exchanges, owning several seats on various exchanges and serving as a member of the New York Stock Exchange from 1981 - 2003; the American Stock Exchange from 1998-2000; and the New York Mercantile Exchange. He was also a Lt. Commander in the active U.S. Navy Reserve, a member of the Dean’s Advisory Board at Emory University’s Goizueta Business School and a Board Chairman of the High Museum of Art in Atlanta.

From 1982 – 1989, Astrop Advisory focused on managing institutional equity portfolios for corporate pension plans and non-profits, as well as investment accounts for high-net-worth individuals.

The firm created two early index funds, OTC-100 Fund and Georgia Growth Fund. Both funds tracked niche markets, with OTC-100 covering the largest 100 stocks on the NASDAQ and Georgia Growth covering some of the largest companies in Georgia, using a unique, in-house index.

From 1984 – 1989, Astrop Advisory was ranked #10 in the nation for equity performance, and its assets under management reached $500 million.

Bill’s sons, Bowen and Doug, eventually joined Astrop Advisory and continued its focus on investing excellence.

Today, the firm continues to be run by the Astrop family and specializes in managing concentrated equity portfolios and designing diversified asset allocation strategies for individuals and families.
